Oxide polishing compounds – Colloidal silica suspension, high concentration.

Colloidal Silica is a fine grained abrasive available in two forms. SILCO at 0.06um in size and OPUS a non crystallising version at 0.04um. The latter being ideal for automated peristaltic dispensers.

When used with a soft napped cloth cloth such as Multicloth or a napless porous synthetic cloth such as Chemicloth it acts as a fine polishing abrasive particularly suitable for aluminium, copper and other non ferrous alloys. Ideal when a perfect finish is required for either differential interference contrast or even Electron Backscatter Detection (EBSD) examination.

When used with a hard Chemotextile cloth Colloidal Silica can be used as a grinding abrasive removing damage from materials such as graphite in cast irons or ceramics. Steady grinding can often remove damage from materials such as titanium when diamond fails to leave a damage free structure.
